The North Sea Hydrogen Ports and Maritime Community (NS HyMaP) is pleased to announce its first webinar will take place on Tuesday 25 May 2021 at 14.30 CEST/ 13.30 BST and is free to join. The webinar will look at the importance of large green hydrogen projects in the development of a renewable hydrogen economy. Large projects are given a high level of strategic significance in the EU Hydrogen Strategy to scale up production and demand for hydrogen. They will play a key role in reducing the price of green hydrogen which is a key factor in developing business cases for the use of green hydrogen.
The webinar will begin with a presentation from Lionel Boillot from the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Joint Undertaking (FCH-JU.) It will examine the role of large projects in the delivery of the EU’s hydrogen strategy and the development of a hydrogen economy.
Two of the largest green hydrogen projects are located in the North Sea Region. These are the NortH2 project in the Netherlands and the AquaVentus project in Heligoland, Germany. Jasper Rigter from RWE will present the NortH2 project. The project, a partnership between Shell, Equinor, Gasunie, RWE, and Groningen Seaports, aims to develop a value chain including offshore wind farms and electrolysers in the Northern Netherlands, where the produced green hydrogen is then stored and transported to industrial centres across North-western Europe. Christine Partmann the Programme Manager from the AquaVentus project will also make a presentation about AquaVentus. The project will begin work on the island of Heligoland in the German Bight and then place electrolysers in the sea as far as the Dogger Bank with the aim of long-term integration into a European hydrogen network.
