From Diesel to Zero : Final Agenda Almost Complete

Andrew Kluth, the Carbon Specialist at the Railways Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) will outline the major points from the Rail Decarbonisation Task Report to Ministers which was published in July.  Andrew is Technical Author of the Report and part of the RSSB support for the Task Force.

The Task Force Report emphasised the need for five year Research and Development Programmes.  This will be a major challenge for not only the rail industry but also the hydrogen, fuel cell and battery industries.  Amer Gaffar, the Director of the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre, will outline the work of the Centre and the challenges faced by the industry in light of the moves to decarbonise the rail network.  Tom Houghton, Managing Consultant at E4tech has been involved in the traction research for RSSB report and he will look at the potential for zero emissions in mainline locomotives.

Rory Dickersen from Network Rail will look at the  development of hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric trains across the World.  Rail franchise companies will play a key role in the introduction of  these trains and Tim Burleigh, Head of External Relations at Eversholt Rail will describe this role.

The Afternoon Keynote Address will be given by Fiona White, the Deputy Director of  Trains Operations and Strategy at the Department for Transport and will outline DFT policy in relation to the Climate Change Committee’s report and the Decarbonisation Task Force Report.
