On 7 March 2022, the NS HyMaP Secretariat lodged an Expression of Interest with the North Sea INTERREG Secretariat. The project looks to develop Master Plans for Port Hydrogen Valleys in Esbjerg, Bremen, Hamburg. Den Helder and More og Romsdal. The starting point will be to look at Hydrogen Production in the North Sea Region and particularly in and around the five Port Hydrogen Valleys. This will be followed by the partners developing a template for Port Hydrogen Valley Master Plans which will be used by each Hydrogen Valley in the construction of their individual Plan.
The project will also look at maritime transportation, particularly vessel design and bunkering. It will look at concept designs for three vessels which have strong business cases and examine the bunkering options for each vessel as well as broad bunkering options in each partner port.
The project will develop its work through four proposed Work Packages (WPs):
WP1 – Green Hydrogen Production including Import and Export in the NSR
WP2 – Development and Implementation of Port Hydrogen Valley Master Plans
WP3 –Development of Hydrogen Vessels including Short Sea Shipping
WP4 – Bunkering and Infrastructure
The project has a broad partnership including the Port of Esbjerg, the City of Bremen, More and Romsdal Council, Hamburg Logistik, Renewable Energy Cluster Hamburg, Compagnie Maritime Belge, Nedstack, Development Agency Noord Holland Noord, Copenhagen Business School, the Technical University Denmark.
There will be more information about the project at the Third North Sea Hydrogen Ports and Maritime Conference which will be held in Brussels on Tuesday 5 April 2022. We understand that the Belgian Government has removed all public health restrictions apart from face coverings on public transport and in medical centres.
