European Policy Solutions is holding a Conference “From Diesel to Zero : Exploring the Potential of Zero Emission Trains.” The Conference will be held in Manchester on Thursday 26 September 2019. The Conference will look at the potential of battery electric and hydrogen trains in a variety of uses from regional passenger trains, freight trains, bi-mode trains and shunters. A number of speakers have already agreed to speak. Robert Missen, Head of Research and Innovation in the European Commission’s DG Move which look at the policy of the European Commission in relation to zero emission trains. Eleanor Hof, the Programme Manager of Germany’s NOW Programme will outline Germany’s Programme and funding for hydrogen and battery electric trains.
Alice Gilman and Dave Horton from Vivarail will look at the work done on Class 320 trains and their conversion from London Underground trains to battery electric trains. Class 320 trains also have the potential to run as hydrogen fuel cell trains as well. The Conference will also hear from Ben Parry of Bombardier who will outline the development of Bombardier’s Target 3 battery electric train. Clive Hannaford, the Managing Director of Clayton Equipment will look at the potential for zero emission shunters.
Invitations have also been extended to Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester and to Andrew Jones MP, the Minister for Rail Policy in the UK Government.
