The Conference examines that strategic importance of the North Sea as a Hydrogen Corridor. It looks at the way in which the hydrogen economy will grow in the North Sea ports and maritime sector and the growth of a green hydrogen market. The Conference also look at the key role that vessel design will play in the transition and the need for a Hydrogen Research and innovation Strategy for the ports and maritime sector.
Vessel design will be a key consideration as the maritime and ports sector transitions to net zero and hydrogen and its derivatives offer a number of options from gaseous or liquid hydrogen, green ammonia or methanol or LOHC. Classification societies will play a key role in the move to hydrogen and derivatives and the Conference will hear from Kai Reichelt from RINA. he will be followed by Jogchum Bruinsma from Nedstack who will examine the use of fuel cells in shipping. Green ammonia is also an option for the maritime and Igor Backalov from DST will outline the work on the development of an ammonia bunkering vessel. Lastly, Madadh MacLaine from ZESTAs will look at the development of a green hydrogen ecosystem in the North and Baltic Seas.
