The 2011 White Paper “Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area – Towards a Competitive and Resource Efficient Transport System” has proved to be a very robust policy document with a long life. It has promoted the increased use of Alternative Fuels through the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive (2014/94/EU.) This has been implemented by DG Move with the support of the Sustainable Transport Forum. Under this Directive, each Member State has been asked to produce and implement a National Planning Framework for increasing the use and availability ofAlternative Fuels.
In November 2017, DG Move published a Clean Mobility Package which included an Action Plan for Alternative Fuels Infrastructure. The Plan proposed EU finding priorities in the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-Ts) and in urban areas. The November 2017 Clean Mobility Package included a number of Initiatives such as a draft revision to the Clean Vehicle Directive. Another Clean Mobility Package is expected in the first half of 2018.
